The Moon is feminine and deals with fertility, emotions, and monthly cycles. Many people believe that the Moon very strongly affects humans and their way of life. The term “lunatic” literally means “moon sick”.
Each phase of the Moon generally occurs once a month. Here they are…
New Moon
Science Says: For the New Moon to happen, the Sun and Moon have to be on the same side of the Earth. Since the Sun isn’t facing our side of the Moon, it appears that it’s gone dark.
Spirituality Says: This is a new beginning and energy is building. You may feel antisocial and need alone time. It’s time to set intentions and goals. This is also a good time for divination.
Waxing Crescent
Science Says: When a Waxing Crescent is here that means the Sun has moved closer to the New Moon and has began to illuminate it.
Spirituality Says: The Waxing Crescent brings energy perfect for making plans. After using the New Moon to charge up, intentions are ready to be released. Stay positive.
First Quarter
Science Says: The First Quarter Moon usually happens about a week after the New Moon. It’s called First Quarter because it marks the Moon being one fourth of the way through its entire monthly cycle.
Spirituality Says: This phase symbolizes challenges. Problems tend to arise around this time, especially linked to the intentions you set during the New Moon. Decisions must be made calmly. Keep moving forward and stay focused.
Waxing Gibbous
Science Says: A Waxing Gibbous is one phase away from a Full Moon. Almost the entire Moon is lit.
Spirituality Says: With this phase, it’s time to refine and alter your plans. Any intentions or ideas should be reevaluated and fine tuned.
Full Moon
Science Says: The Sun and Moon are on the opposite sides of the planet causing the Full Moon.
Spirituality Says: The Full Moon is the time for harvesting and receiving. Especially if intentions were set during the New Moon, it’s now time to reap the benefits. This phase is also a time for high emotions. Remember to evaluate your feelings to make sure you aren’t overreacting. Release anything that doesn’t serve you to make room for receiving abundance and all you’ve called in. It is also a prime time to charge any crystals, water, or other special items that you’d like full of Love and Light.
Traditional Full Moons
January - Wolf Moon July - Buck Moon
February - Snow Moon August - Sturgeon Moon
March - Worm Moon September - Harvest Moon
April - Pink Moon October - Hunter’s Moon
May - Flower Moon November - Beaver Moon
June - Strawberry Moon December - Cold Moon
Waning Gibbous
Science Says: The Moon’s light starts to dwindle, beginning the process of going back to the New Moon.
Spirituality Says: This phase encourages gratitude and sharing. After the blessings of the Full Moon, it’s time to be grateful and share your abundance. Be generous, but don’t go overboard. The Waning Gibbous Moon also signifies that it’s now time to release negativity.
Third or Last Quarter
Science Says: This phase can be called either Third or Last Quarter and is the exact opposite of the First Quarter.
Spirituality Says: According to the Last Quarter Moon, it’s time to purge all things (emotions, relationships, etc.) that no longer serve you to make room for the New Moon’s energy.
Waning Crescent
Science Says: The Waning Crescent Moon is still slightly illuminated, but is steadily on its way to a New Moon.
Spirituality Says: During this phase, it’s time for surrender and rest. You may feel hollow and empty while the Waning Crescent is here; don’t worry because this is natural. You must clear out the old to let in the new.
